If you’re too old for Activity Day or our Sunday Club or our after school clubs you may think:

You could…Join the Choir? Become a Bell Ringer? Be a Leader at Activity Days? Become a Leader for Brownies, Guides or Rainbows?
Join one of the groups on this page à
At the moment we don’t have any regular meetings for discussion or learning or even many social events!!!! (shocking!)
BUT sometimes all it takes is a good idea! Do you have any?

The Reflections Group:
The Reflections Group is a longstanding group for those who are interested in the
"awkward questions". Originally the group met to discuss philosophical and theological issues that are relevant
to the life of faith, but over the years the group has evolved both in membership and in the topics discussed. However the
basic remit remains the same - to be a group of questioning fellow travellers who are able to share their deepest concerns.
Although the core of the membership is drawn from
the congregation of St. Chad's,
there are also members of other churches and those who would not consider themselves to be church members at all. What we
have in common is a shared interest in exploratory and eclectic discussions about life, faith, and action.
A list of some of our discussions in recent times gives some idea of the range of the group's
interests - and all of our discussions are led by the interests of particular members.
Jonathan Sacks - "The Dignity of Difference" Rowan
Williams's lecture on the possibility of incorporating aspects of Sharia Law into the British legal system The film "The Reader". We watched it together and then discussed it David Runcorn - "The road to Growth Less Travelled" Conversation with a visiting humanist The Israeli/Palestinian
conflict - led by a visiting speaker. Poetry evenings Personal understandings of the Nicene Creed
There are upwards of fifteen people on the mailing list for the group, and attendance is usually of about ten to
twelve. The only rules of the group are that the agenda is member led, and that the content of our discussions is regarded
as confidential. All views are to be respected in a setting in which we are able to be open about the particular place to
which life's journey has for the moment brought us. But
it is not all work. Not only do we share in intellectual fellowship but we also share in regular social get-togethers.

Enquirers:
Meet
weekly over a period of 6 or 7 weeks in small groups with regular St Chad's Parishioners to learn about Christian Faith
through discussion, activities and asking loads of questions (no such thing as a stupid one!) P.S. There is usually chocolate
involved...
Emmaus:
For those who've been
to the ‘Enquirers' group and want to come back for more!! The 6 week course covers what was talked about in
the ‘Enquirers' course in more depth. Some people attend to learn a bit more about Christianity and leave
again. Some people have attended and gone on to become members of the worshipping community of St Chad's!
Foundations For Ministry Course:
Is a one-year foundation course for potential candidates for the Local Ministry Training Course. It aims to
offer people a sound introducaton to Biblical Studies and Christian theology. Recently about 8 people received their certificates
for the course that finished in July 2011.
Bishop's Certificate
Course:
Is a two-year foundation course for any interested party. It aims
to offer people an in-depth grounding in Biblical Studies and Christian theology. Currently St Chad's have about 14 people
signed up to participate in the course beginning in late September 2011.
Lent & Advent Groups:
Small groups are formed to meet together weekly in the 4-6 Weeks leading up to Christmas and Easter. The purpose is
to study and discuss aspects of the Christian Faith which are interesting and relevant. We hope to further our personal development
and often participants find it reassuring to know that the challenges that we face in trying to live a Christian life are
shared by others. Through talking about issues within the Bible, solutions to life's challenges (big or small) are
sometimes less daunting!
House Groups:
Currently there are no ‘formal' house/study cells operating apart from the ‘Reflections Group' above.
If you see this as an integral part of your worship, perhaps you would like to begin a group of your own? Make yourself
known to one of the Clergy or PCC and let's try and get your project underway!
Occasionally
different courses are made available and study groups are set up within the parish. If you are interested in the different
types of formal courses and qualifications that the Church of England offer, visit Church of England Adult Learning Page or Lichfield Centre for Christian Studies
