Choir & Musical Groups:
Music is an important aspect of worship and St Chads is proud to have a 20 member choir of adults and children to aid its Sunday Eucharist services. The church holds onto the robed choir tradition that has declined in the UK over the last 25 years. This committed community of singers meet every Friday (during term time) between 7:00 and 8:30 to rehearse anthems and hymns for Sunday services and 'red letter days' such as Holy Week, Easter Sunday and Pentecost. Anthems in the past year have included Just as I am (Chilcott), God shall wipe away all tears (from The Armed Man, Jenkins) - used for Remembrance Sunday, The Shepherds Farewell (Berlioz) - Christmas, and If ye love me (Tallis). This eclectic mix of renaissance and contemporary classics is central to the choirs' adaptability and desire to facilitate worship for all. Planned anthems for the coming year include: Parry's Never Weather-beaten Sail and Bach's Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring as well some more romantic and classical movements by composers such as Saint-Saen and Rutter. Young musicians are encouraged to take part in the Royal School of Church Music's development programme (Voice for Life) which involves the learning of music theory, singing technique and leadership skills within the choral setup. As reward for each level choristers are presented with ribbons.
If you would like to join our choir then please do not hesitate to contact our choral director Mitchell Holland at mitchellholland2006@yahoo.co.uk or come along on a Friday evening.
As well as its choir, St Chads is very pleased to house a worship group that facilitates the music at the 11:30 Fresh Expression service. A group of lively individuals with passion for praise, this musical set-up currently comprises of 4 singers, pianist, trumpet, acoustic guitar and flute. The group is always looking to expand and would welcome any new instrumentalists, especially a drummer and a bass instrument.
Music includes versions of hymns, worship songs from the last 30 years and music written by and for the group. If you wish to aid our group then please have no hesitation to contact our music leader Mitchell Holland on mitchellholland2006@yahoo.co.uk to set up a meeting and rehearsal.

Bell Ringing:

St Chad's has a small team who meet together regularly to ring the four bells situated in the east tower of the Church.  The team is comprised of a range of ages and is always happy to hear from interested people (young and not-so-young) who wish to find out more about their activities.

You don't need to be a member of the Church to join!  Practice is usually held on Saturday mornings.  Bells are then rung from 9.00am-9.30am on Sunday as a welcome to those attending the 9.30 church service.

Please ring John Smith 01543 508 241 for further information.

St Chad's Cricket Club:

We are looking forward to the new season beginning this spring, and as always are on the lookout for new players - especially young ones. (Our current players range in age from mid-teens to mid- 60s.) So, if any parents, grandparents or great grandparents, know of likely young ones, or not-so-young ones please contact Jim Dodsworth on 01543 256636.

St Chad's Walking Group:

Come rain or shine, and usually on the last Saturday of each month, there is a gathering of walkers outside St. Chad's preparing for a walk of approximately six miles. There might be any number of us ranging from eight to twenty, and aged between ten and well over seventy! This group is open to anyone who would like to join us - details are always to be found in Chadfax. Often friends from the Wade Street Church and from St. Michael's join with us too.

Walks in Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire have all been enjoyed over the years; rambling near to home during the winter months and further afield in the summer.

If you love to be out in the countryside enjoying exercise, counting buzzards, trying to identify bird-song, discovering wild-flowers you've not seen before, and getting to know the other walkers, do join us at the end of the month.

Lichfield Theatre Group:

Do you enjoy live theatre? Then contact the ‘Lichfield Theatre Group'.  We organise trips to various theatre venues by coach.  Example: to London for ‘Sister Act', to Manchester for ‘Calendar Girls' & to Birmingham for the ballet and opera.  During the summer we have days out Example: Windsor and Cheltenham.  Ring Chris Cull 01543 252 694 or Doreen Parker 01543 254 923

Churches Together in Lichfield

Churches Together in Lichfield (CTL) is an ecumenical group of all the churches in Lichfield and surrounding district.  St Chad's Church is an active supporter of this project.

CTL organises activities which include Lent House Groups, the Good Friday Walk of Witness and Evening Service in the Cathedral.  The Lichfield Inter Faith Forum is now firmly established and has had a series of interesting talks, discussions and visits.

Christian Aid:

The annual Christian Aid collection in Lichfield is a non denominational project in which St Chad's Church participates.  Interest is such that we usually manage to find collectors for many of the roads we are allocated, but as always... "Many hands make light work"!

Join in the fun this year!!   You can find more information about the work of Christian Aid at their official website:http://www.christianaid.org.uk/

Traidcraft

St Chad's continues to support the Traidcraft ideal and tries to buy Fairtrade products where possible.

Beavers, Rainbows, Brownies & Guides

Beavers take part in a variety of sporting, educational and craft activities and are encouraged to take activity badges.  Beavers provides a great opportunity for children to make new friends from other schools, to learn about themselves and others, to develop a caring attitude and to build self confidence.  More information can be found from Tracey Kelly. (Phone number on request from Church office)

There is one Rainbow group, three Brownie packs and one Guide unit currently meeting in St Chad's Church Hall.  These girls work through an exciting and varied programme of activities in a safe and supportive atmosphere.  As well as weekly meetings, there are opportunities and challenges on Brownie pack holidays, Guide camps and other outings.  They are always on the look-out for more adult helpers and leaders to allow them to run full units.  Girl Guiding UK offer an exciting training programme for adult leaders to follow.  Any offers of adult help should be directed to District Commissioner Mrs. Vera James or fill out an online form on the Girl Guiding UK website HERE.

Mother's Union

Our work for overseas, this country and our local community continues and members give generously to these causes.  We still provide all baptism cards for the Church, also have a rota to wash the Church linen every week and a rota to help at Jump for Joy once a month.  We raise money for the Church at the annual Garden Party and Christmas Fayre.  We visit members who are less able to attend meetings outside of their home.  We work hard and we play hard, we have our aims and objectives which we follow to help maintain family life.  The only criterion to becoming a member is that you have been baptised in the Christian faith regardless of denomination.

We also invite you to come along as our guest. Both ladies and gentlemen are invited and will be made most welcome; if you wish to become a member please leave a message at the Parish Office for Derek Ayling or a member of the committee.  We meet on the fourth Thursday in the month at 2.00pm at the Church Hall.
